Ok, we are just packing to head to chch, so this will be very quick.

Last night I was setting up the pxt page. When a pxt is sent through it goes through a combination of different emails back and forth from 3 places to ensure the ‘recent updates’ section is also updated.

Or thats the theory…

Anyway, in the middle of setting it up, I was distracted. To cut a long story short, I ended up accidentally entering the wrong email address in one of the places.

It doesn’t sound that serious does it?

I didn’t even consider that it would cause any problems if I had inadvertantly made a mistake (not that i realised). So I sent through a pxt.

It was about then that my mistake bacame apparent. I had managed to create a horrible horrible loop.

So every time the “recent Updates” section was updated, it emailed the diary to up date that. And every time the diary updated, it emailed the recent updates.

Apparently these two can manage to email each other about 2X every second!!!

By the time I found it, I had approx 1000 updates in each saying nothing but ‘pxt’ and ‘diary’.

The worst thing is there was no way to delete them all on bulk – I had to go through and ‘click edit, click delete, click yes’ one every entry individually!

It was about then that I recieved an email from the owner of the site I use to update from sms/pxt asking if I knew why he had had 1000 emails from me and If I was ment to be posting all of those posts (which were all the same).

I can only imagine the laugh he would have had when I explained what I had done, and that I was in the process of deleting them one by one!

Anyway, it was about then that I realised I could record a macro to do the three mouse clicks for me! That way I could leave it going automatically. That way the only limit on time was the amount of time it took for each page to load (about 2 secs per delete). I set it going and went to sort out some of my clothes to take away.

I dont know why I assumed that everything would be fine – but I did.

I came back about 30 min later to see how far through it was – hoping it would be 1/2 of the way there…

It wasn’t!

Apparently, one of my email accounts had decided that 2000 emails over the space of 10 min was a bit excessive (I cant imagine why?). And they had banned my account. Unfortinuatley when they closed it, thier system automaticall sent a reply to all of the emails in my inbox advising the sender that they had not arrived.

You guessed it – this ment another bath of 1000 had arrived and were uploading as quick as I was deleting them.

I put a stop to all that uploading, and set the macro running again!

After 90minutes, I had finally cleared all of these posts!

So I set about setting it all up again…

I am proud to say that the pxt page now works, and automatically updates my ‘recent updates’ section.

The bad news is that despite Mayos kind donation of a new email account (after I had been banned from my last mail server) I cannot get the recent updates section to work for diary updates!

So my appoligies for anyone this may cause problems for – I will endevor to fix this when I get home from holiday.

But in the meantime you will just have to keep checking the diary!

P.S. A huge thanks to Cameron from bastish.net for blocking my account when teh 2nd lot of emails came through – it saved me a heap of time!
