Ok, yesterday while driving to work, I witnessed the worst piece of driving that I have ever seen. It was wrong on so many levels….
The time was 7.50am so the traffic was reasonably heavy. I was driving towards newmarket on Kyber Pass road, now this is one of the main links to Newmarket from Ponsonby, so there is usually a bit of traffic. I was sitting in the left hand lane waiting at a set of traffic lights. The right hand lane is a turn only into the motorway, their green arrow comes on before we can go straight. Anyway the right hand lane had by this time cleared and we starting moving. (by now the traffic was backed up a little but nothing out of the ordinary) On the left was a side street. Suddenly a car came speeding up the empty right hand lane (it was going far to quick) and then suddenly turned left into a quickly diminishing gap between two car, into the side street. This car didn’t even slow down to check that there was a gap, he just turned and was lucky that the car had stopped before the side straight to let cars from the other side of the road turn in (as suggested by the lane markings) Because we had started moving again the car had to stomp the brakes and only missed hitting this guy by millimeters.
Now everyone says that Auckland drivers are bad – I think they are just stupid. The car should never have been trying to turn left from the right hand lane. Why couldn’t he have waited an extra 30 seconds and joined the line – Next time I hope he gets hit!!!
Anyway, I’d better go now, funnily enough its back on the roads now – we are going up north for a drive since its a lovely day here.
