Unfortinuatley I just lost what was a mammoth post when my laptop battery died…
I’ll try and recreate it below, so please bear with me.
Tonight I’d like to spend my diary time reminising a little.
One day while I was a bit younger, I decleared that my oldest brother was officially old! My Mum and Dad decided to quiz me on what exactly made him officially old…
Without even blinking, I announced that you become old when work becomes more important than the social life.
At the time I thought that this was a great answer, but it has come back to haunt me now! Having worked till 10 every night this week – I am officially old!
So, at the risk of having an obscenly long diary update, I thought I would spend some time reminising over some of the things that that have changed since I was young…
First up, Computers! Just over 15 years ago, our family got our first computer. I remember Dad and I puzzling over it one morning because we wanted to turn it off, but the hard drive light wouldn’t turn off. It turned out later that day that we were looking a the power light, the hard drive light was next to it… Computers back then seemed to work via magic.
–> In contrast, I now carry a loptop around with me 8 hours a day. I dont even have a desk at work, just a mobile connection. Oh, and I also have built my own website…
Next, Cartoons…
Back when I was young, cartoons were a series of hand drawn slides that were played one after the other at high speed. The characters where personified animals or inamate objects, and the storylines lasted for one show.
–> These days they arn’t even technically Cartoons. They are just TV sitcoms with computer generated characters… Oh, and the stories are full of morals and education?!?
Finally, 1 & 2 cent coins.
I mean 1 and 2’s were great, you could buy all sorts of things with them including lollies and, um, er… more lollies.
–> Now I find my self wondering why we still have 5c peices, I mean, you cant even buy lollies with them any more!
Anyway, its late, and I still have some final work to finish off (my description of old is coming back to haunt me now!).
But before I go, I have one more thing to reminise about. If you look back through the past diary updates, you will notice that this diary has just past its 2nd birthday!
(This is a bit missleading, as it is actually this sites 5th birthday, but in reality the main site development happened at the same time that the diary was added… either way, happy birthday to S2)
I’ve got to run, but as I’m in a reminising mood, I have a favour to ask. Can everyone take the time to add a comment about one change from when they were a kid (that even includes you Mum and Dad!).
