I used to laugh at Maxwell and the horiffic IT polocies he has to contend with…

Well disaster struck yesterday when I had to have my laptop rebuilt. That meant I got the latest IT approved settings :-/

For goodness sake, now I can’t even change the IP address of my wireless network! For those of you that don’t know what this means – basically it makes it difficult for me to connect to my wireless network at home.

This means I have to log in via my Vodafone Wireless card everytime I wish to log in. I have a feeling some questions are going to be asked by my manager when my next bill comes in, as my data usage is surprisingly high when I am working from home… but at least I get to explain its another crazy IT policy thats getting in the way of productivity 😉

Anyway, today things only got worse when we recieved this email…

Hi All,

After the successful change over to the new proxy service on Tuesday the 23rd May, we are now in a position to turn off the old service. If you are using Mozilla or another product to bypass automatic configuration settings for proxy on the Vodafone Network, then these will stop working as at Friday 2nd June at 10am.

If you need any help converting to the new service or have any questions please contact XXX

Regards

Now this didn’t mean to much to the people in the ofice, so a competition was started for the best translation… Heres my interpretation…

Hi All,

We are changing over to a new DooHicky on Friday - after all we do like playing with new toys.

If you do not know what "Mozilla" is, then you cannot come and work in technology (Its like Internet Explorer but is considered 'cooler' in technology).

If you are using "Mozilla" then you are probably geeky enough to work out how to bypass the random IT policy we are going to try and enforce with our new DooHicky. We recommend you block out 5 min of your time at 10am Friday to be naughty and bypass our DooHicky.

If you need any help, then go ask Shane like you normally do.

Regards

P.S. This will only happen at 10am on Friday as we are at our technology awards dinner Thursday night and will no doubt be rather uninterested in playing with our new toy until the Berocca and Panadol kicks in.

P.S.S. We will also be removing the "Mozilla Rocks" posters that have been put up in the office - they are banned under the 'fun rule'.
