As many of you are aware by now, I lost my expensive headphones last time I was in Chch…

I was guttered as I used to listen to them daily at work – they blocked out just the right amount of sound giving amazing clarity, but alas, they have gone.

Anyway, I finally caved to the belief that ‘no they wouldn’t magically turn up again’ so I started the search for a replacement.

I was horrified at the prices in NZ (my last pair I picked up in Germany). Yet when I looked online the prices in the US were a lot less! Yet no one in the US ships to NZ.

I mentioned this to one of my work colleagues, and we came up with a great plan. Set up a warehouse in the US, with a local address that people can send to, and then ship items back to NZ for them.

We had a look online, and the only ones like it charged an annual subscription fee, and were designed to consolidate parcels into one shipment etc. Very expensive for just one or two shipments.

No one had tapped into the concept of one off shipments!

We worked out that a business model should be sustainable with a $5 admin fee, and 0.5kg shipping increments. Unfortunately, neither of us had enough capitol or friends/contacts in the US to get it started. It went on hold as an idea…

One morning my colleague came and asked if I was still after headphones???

He had found a site that did exactly what we had thought of – right down to the charging model!

For a small fee you can have items shipped from the states. It rocks!

My headphones sell for around $300 in NZ – we are landing 2 pairs for around $120 ea (including shipping). Its crazy.
