as a kid

when i first learnt to count

my mum explained that some flowers are different

and some are the same….

and the ones that are the same

will be ‘made’ the same

right down to having the same number of petals

and the same colouring

and with that knowledge

i was away

and i spent hours

dancing around the garden

counting

counting petals

just to check…

to this day i’m not sure what i was checking

was i checking the flowers were ok?

or was i checking that mum did in fact know everything?

or perhaps

just perhaps

i was checking that the world was indeed as it should be…
