Posting this Sunday morning because Saturday was an all day party, for about 120 people, to celebrate the 50th Birthday of a very respected and much loved local identity in Hanmer Springs.
Started at the Hurunui Country Gala & Race Day which was last held in 1998 – a fun event well supported by the locals. Brilliant Day – very hot at 30 degrees and not a cloud in the sky.
Of course there were races – horses, huskies, hounds & kids (not all at the same time) – and beer, and bbqs, and bouncy castles and best dressed competitions.
The local fireman were there – manning the gates and organising the parking – and had their gear lined up ready for action as the tinder dry grass could have turned to a blazing inferno in minutes.
Then it was party night……… a 1960’s beach party (without the sand). In true 60’s style it was in the local hall, blokes a crate, ladies a plate, and lots of very energetic dancing as the fantastic band played good ol’ 60’s music.
Brilliant …….. but very weary today!!
