S1 and I have been known to go miles out of our way to get to world heritage sites

My Mum and Dad introduced us to them with the amazing Alhambra in Spain and we quickly decided that they were indeed something special

They all give their own unique outlook on nature or the local culture and human achievement.

Anyway, S1 booked our first nights accommodation Portugal at random a couple of hours up the road.

So you can imagine our surprise when we discovered a week before we left that the town we had book contained a world heritage site.

We go lost on our way to our hotel and ended up on the doorstep of this place.

The head quarters of the 12th century Portuguese Knights Templar

It was outstandingly well maintained

standing above a sleep town beside a winding river

the whole town had a magical charm which carries a certain air of ages past
