My Dad always taught me to learn something new every day…
He used to ask us often what we had learn’t that day.
I was always proudest of the days where the things I had learnt were of my own doing; something I had discovered and not the work of some textbook or teacher.
Those lessons normally come from something surprising.
Something that didn’t fit my own mental hypothesis about how the world should work, or perhaps something I hadn’t even formed a hypothesis on.
So anyway, Dad, if you read this…
Tonight I learn’t that Swans eat grass.
I supposed I had always just assumed those long necks were to pull weeds off the bottom of the lake…
Based on the fact their necks aren’t for food; I am guessing they are so long as a form of mating display?
Regardless, I didn’t expect to see them so at home in the middle of a filed with a mouth full of grass.
