The snow was threatening in the air

traffic warnings issued

so we were very aware time.

We decided to pick a castle

from the dozens along the river

we found a few open for winter.

S1 did the honors, picking out a gem

it was astonishing

We have seen plenty of ‘late’ castles

Siege castles, massive building efforts designed to protect armies

but this was new for us

a family castle

half built against the elements

half built against raiders

not an army in sight.

It was eye opening

fascinating

a romantic castle along the Rhine.
