I thought my kids will be impressed to know that I had my first online grocery order delivered today. How geeky is that!! So easy to order yesterday and then the bags just arrived at the door this morning. I was fresh and very happy to put them away – instead of tired and hassled after fighting through traffic and trolleys and carparks.
Being so modern is a brilliant idea I thought.
BUT ………… as I was putting the groceries away a clear picture developed in my mind. I could see Mr Mullen arriving with a large cardboard carton which he placed on our kitchen table, and then he would stop for a chat with mum. I loved hunting through the box and helping put the groceries in the cupboards …… and with the big box I could make a hut or a bed or a truck or whatever took my fancy.
That must have been in the early 1950’s ……. so what is modern about getting groceries delivered?? Maybe I am just an old fashioned mum reverting back to the habits of my mum, and her mum, and her mum. and……
Not sure what I am going to do with all those plastic bags though as I always use recyclable bags at the supermarket – maybe I will request my next delivery in a cardboard carton 🙂
