A lot of dust was rising over the city centre today suggesting the demolition crews were very busy. I had a bit of spare time before I went to feed my mum her dinner tonight, so went in for a quick look.

It is a very sombre place. A few people outside the cordon, and they just stand and look in disbelief. A lot of buildings have come down, but there is still an enormous amount of damage to roads and buildings everywhere I looked.

These photos were taken near the Bridge of Remembrance looking down Cashel Mall. This used to be in the heart of our vibrant city centre, now buildings are being demolished in the hope that this area can be re-opened in early November.

I have two images in my blipfolio if you want compare today’s images with the same part of the city earlier this year. The top image had a tall glass office building on the right, and the lower left image had the same glass building on the right of the tree, and beautiful old buildings on the left housing boutique designer fashion stores.

The crane on the lower right is just a standard part of our city skyline everywhere we look, but its role is demolition, not construction.

It is hard to believe that two weeks ago we were in Washington DC and Virginia, and today they had a 5.8 earthquake. My thoughts are with friends there, and we hope there is not too much damage in the area.
