Four of the five tallest buildings in Christchurch are to be demolished. We can see them all from our home so our outlook will be very different in a few months time.
It is already different as the Grand Chancellor Hotel was a very prominent landmark, but it is rapidly disappearing. The demolition process is a very challenging one because of the lean – which appears to be getting worse!!
The Westpac building on the left is also to be demolished (although it is not one of the higher buildings in the city), but the Holiday Inn on the right seems to be okay although is it out-of-bounds until the Grand Chancellor is down.
It was a very hot day today and a beautiful evening so we went for a walk with molly, but ended up in the city as I wanted to get this photo. gd hadn’t seen all the demolitions that have taken place recently, leaving us with masses of vast empty spaces, so we were seriously distracted. No matter, we saw the sights while molly had her walk, and with the long evenings we still had time to go to the park for her to chase a ball.
