Sometimes on blip, I put up something I want to remember in 12 months time. It’s not a story for anyone else, but what I think of as ‘future nostalgia’. Tonight is one of those nights.

After fixing the MX5 last night, I decided to take it to work.

With snow forecast and S1’s bump getting bigger I don’t want her driving it. She didn’t care, but sometimes I get pedantic about things like this.

Amazingly, halfway to work, I fell in love with the car all over again.

I don’t do the commute in it much these days. It’s much more suited to the short back roads S1 enjoys each day. When I did do the commute it was just a daily grind. 60miles a day motorway driving made it easy to forget how much fun back to basics driving can be.

But, now that we are planning to sell it, and it’s days with it are numbered, I couldn’t help but think about what I was doing.

It’s nimble, responsive and just plain fun. Perfect for rolling the short commute down the motorway in traffic. Slow lane cruising with enough zip to pass as needed.

And then on the way home, with the first whisps of snow falling she became fun for all the other reasons I love her. With such slippery roads, and a limited slip diff, it was slow speed, sideways facing, drifts. Deserted roundabouts heading home became a playground for a big kid for a minute or two. She’s so easy to handle and drive it’s a joy.

I’ll miss it when we sell it. We have had her longer than any other car we have ever owned, and loved every minute of it.

A real drivers car. I hope she ends up with someone who will love and care for her as much as we have.
