We biked to Waitangi today and wandered around the treaty house and grounds – took a few photos of historic buildings and scenery, but I like this one best 🙂
I have only seen these particular marigolds growing here and at Kemp House in Kerikeri. They were brought to NZ by the early English settlers and have grown in the gardens of both houses ever since. The Waitangi Treaty House was the home of James Busby, the first British resident in NZ, and Kemp House was the original mission house completed in 1822, and is the oldest surviving house in NZ today. They both have wonderful flower and vegetable gardens which have been restored to their original state.
