A record shot today.

This morning I had a very overdue ‘coffee and catch up’ with hpx, and then, because it was a glorious warm day, mollyanme went for a walk around part of the red zone boundary which has recently been reduced slightly.

This was the Crowne Plaza, but is now a pile of rubble. When it is cleared we will be able to see through to Victoria Square, but I’m sure it will not look the same as we remember it.

Two of the tall buildings in the background are being demolished. Working from the left:

– the part building is the Town Hall and its fate is still unsure,

– the Price Waterhouse is coming down,

– the smaller Copthorne in front of it & behind the trees is ok but still in the red zone,

-the Rendezvous Hotel in the distance is due to open very soon (and may be the tallest building remaining in the city)

– the Forsyth Barr building is coming down,

– and the tall apartment block on the right is on a lean, but I don’t know if a decision has been made on its future.

Very soon our cityscape is going to be very low-rise.
