I wanted a distraction, and there was no better reason than a birthday.

So, last night S1 helped me back 2 Neapolitan sponges,

and this morning, I had the carving and decorating job.

And this was my cake for the day.

Then, the NCT group boys and I headed off to the local brewery for a tour

and back for a BBQ.

All in all, a lovely way to notch up another year.

Edit: This blip should have been one to ask for help.

As a child, my mum always made amazing cakes.

I’ll never forget the signature dotted icing texture she had for them all.

Today I tried it for Cookie Monster, but just couldn’t get the icing right, so ended up settling on a messy scruffy cookie monster effect.

I hope that one day my mum will teach me her secret so I can do the same for little CJ in the years to come.
