After a very stormy day yesterday, then strong winds and heavy rain all night our city is awash today with the worst flooding since 1974. Both rivers have broken their banks and many houses are flooded nearby, as well as in large areas where the land has dropped because of earthquakes.

The rain has finally stopped so hope tomorrow brings receding flood waters and lots of sunshine to brighten everyone’s spirits and to help with the drying out.

This bit of river at the bottom of our hill is a favourite spot for mollyanme to go walking – although today there is definitely no walking tracks. The footbridge has been built since the earthquakes and I always wondered why it was made so solid and so high – now I know. It is the only bridge along the river where the water isn’t lapping at its surface …….. although tall gumboots are needed to access it.
