A cultural day at Okains Bay museum – the site of Canterbury’s Waitangi Day celebrations each year.
It is a fantastic museum with a mix of maori history, the development of the town with the arrival of whalers and settlers, a replica village with houses, blacksmith, saddlery, prison, maori whare, and a huge collection of maori artifacts and household possessions of the settlers.
We stayed almost two hours as there was so much of interest, then we went for a walk along the beach which was calm and peaceful, but I suspect it is a very busy place in summer.
Happy 2nd birthday S-M
