Abel Seamen CJ and GD aboard HMS Protector, the British navy’s icebreaker which is in Lyttelton this weekend to refuel and take on supplies …… and then it will head back to Antarctica patrolling the Ross Sea and inspecting fishing vessels catching toothfish.

Fortunately we joined the queue very early and had a shortish wait to get on board Рunlike later arrivals who waited for 2 hours or more. It was a fascinating tour and the crew were very happy to answer questions and explain about the ship.  However the best attraction for CJ was the guns, and the helicopter pad.
