A few weeks ago a fire ripped through these hills – starting on the right hand side of the photo from a steep bank near the bridge and below the look out carpark. It started about 10pm in a norwest wind and raged through the night until helicopters with monsoon buckets could be used in the morning to subdue the flames. But it took several days to put the fire out completely.
There were several houses in the line of the fire and it is a miracle that none of them were burnt to the ground ………….. and a lot of thanks to the skills of the local fire fighting teams. It is still very dry in the area and these bare hills serve as a reminder to take care with cigarette butts as that is one suspected cause of the fire
