One of the many cemeteries in Flanders Fields – this one is at Hill60, the highest point in the battlefields. It is only 60 m high but commanded a view over the entire area so was a very strategic point worth fighting for.
Amazing day touring the battlefield sites and hearing the history of WW1 in this area. Four years of fighting in atrocious conditions, but the German attack on France through the lowlands of Belgium failed at this point. We hear a lot about Gallipoli but kiwi soldiers made a huge contribution, and suffered enormous losses, in the battles on Flander Fields
