But this time it is the sunset, not the fires that are causing the red glow.  The weather was kind today being much cooler and the humidity higher so the fire crews and the  helicopter pilots have made brilliant progress dampening down the fires.  It will still be a long time to get it under controlled, let alone extinguished, but at least tonight it is contained and the smoke isn’t billowing all over the hills and parts of the city.

People evacuated can’t return to their homes until Saturday, and a wind change in strength or direction could ignite the hot spots again.  Hopefully tomorrow is cooler and cloudy and with luck some rain might arrive at the weekend.
