CJ wanted a lego themed birthday party, which sounded great.

Until…

I asked him to draw the cake he wanted.

He drew a standing up lego figure, which I obviously told him wouldn’t work as the cake would be too heavy. Cakes need to lie down flat.

He thankfully understood… and just asked us to design a surprise.

But there lies the problem. That’s not how the magic of childhood should work.

And so began a challenge. How to deliver some impossible magic for a boy aged 9 who is rapidly learning magic doesn’t exist.

And so, we had to play with new ideas. Try things we’d never done before. Take some chances and make some mistakes.

And at the end of the day.

The magic is real.

And the smile it brought was very real indeed.
