I’ll start with the general stuff today…

If there are any comments, suggestions, issues with, praise etc around the ‘proposed’ site layout then I would realy appreciate it.

To date I have only had comments from 1 person without having to ask them (thanks Blair), and a couple of comments from others when prompted. It is going to take a bit of work to transfer my page over to the new format, and despite the fact that I like the new layout, I have been wondering if its worth doing? I mean most of you come to this site for the content, not how pretty it looks… dont you?

So, any feedback, good or bad, would be appreciated before I look at moving any more pages onto the layout template – unless there are a number of people who are quite keen on the layout, then I’m not sure if I’ll bother with the change?

Also, FYI, I may have to cut down on some of the stuff on our site as I have run out of webspace on both Geocities and Paradise. I have been looking at other options, but the domain name we have been looking at will cost us about $5 a month ongoing, which isn’t bad, but to get hosting somewhere with 40Mb of webspace (our site is currently 25Mb and growing) is going to cost a minimum of about $20 per month, which is to high for us to justify.

I am currently exploring other free hosting options with more space on them, but its a bit of a struggle. So worst case scenario is that we have to cut some of the ‘space consuming’ things off our site. (Note: – donations are gratefully accepted )

Now, secondly, I would like to draw your attention to a recent post on [ Mayos Diary ].

Lousy Shane. I spent the last 15 minutes hunting around his website for the captions for New Year’s, only to find the fool has stuffed up his tables, and it doesn’t appear properly in any browser other than IE. And Opera. And… ok so it’s just Mozilla.

My site is designed with the majority of people in mind, and most of the visits I get are from IE

Despite this, in my recent site design I have made every attempt to make my site work on all platforms, so if you do use a different browser (Mayo and Nick) and have any problems then please let me know and I’ll try and fix them.

Also, if I cannot fix something to work in your browser then… well, get over it!

The simple fact is that all of my html knowledge has been self tought, and I will get stuff wrong from time to time. As 99% of my traffic comes from people using IE, this is where I put 99% of my time into making sure my site works.

I have always made sure that all of the major peices of content/page layout on my site works across all browsers, however there has been, and I am sure there wil continue to be, small peices of functionallity that will only show up in certain browsers. I take every precaution to try and ensure this isn’t the case, however sometimes the problems are caused from the wrong formatting of the script behind my page (ie. this example), these errors are something that are bound to happen considering I have taught myself everything I know.

If you point these issues out to me then I will do my best to remedy the issue ASAP!

I still recommend you browse my page in IE as this is what it has been designed for. If you choose to use anything else, then you take the risk that some things may not appear the same. This is just a chance you take (on all sites, not just mine), and I take all care, no responsibility for making sure the page will work for you…

‘Cavet empor com’ – May the browser beware.
