……….live nearby – about 20km southwest of Christchurch and about 5kms underground.

They moved in a couple of weeks ago, and crashed and banged and shook us all so much we could not forget they were there!!

A couple of days ago they settled and were quiet and gentle, but today they have been back on the move again ………….. fortunately this time they are only moving their chairs around in their house, not moving all their belongings to another house in the street!!

Like most people in Canterbury we are regularly checking geonet to see what is happening underground. The first week showed masses of red on the seismograph and we were having 30 strong tremors a day. The red lines indicate the intensity of the quake but we don’t feel all of them – just the occasional quick jolt or a slight rumble and tremor. Each graph covers a 24 hour period – the top graph was 2 days ago and the lower graph shows the past 24 hours,

Above ground is relatively quiet, but there is still a lot of activity underground and it will obviously take a while for the grumpy old men to settle to where they finally want to reside.
