So I guess most of you have heard about the kid that threw the 8kg rock off a 9m high overbridge onto a car that was traveling on the motorway. What I can’t seem to understand is how a 14 year old couldn’t work out that it would kill someone. Anyway the public out cry has been really strong. There has been many debates with my workmates over this issue. What are your thoughts on the below??
I was listening to the radio last night and the DJ basically cool him a stupid loser, so why are there copy-cats?? That’s right, since that fatalful incident there have been at least two other cases reported with rocks being thrown at cars and buses.
My question is at 14 would you do something like that.
No. Of course you would, so what has gone wrong with the youth today? People blame the violent tv programs (yay the power rangers) and the violent playstation/x-box games that are all the rage at the moment. But I don’t agree with that. There is more real-life violence showed on the news each night than that of a movie. Perfect example is the truck driver who was beaten by a hammer in an act of road rage. (the name supression of his attacker is a whole different rant) When I saw this article I thought “oh great another one of America’s video tapes” but no this was in NZ??? (yet another different story). So how can you blame the movies and playstation games when you just have to watch the news???
I think it is simply that there is a lack of control and respect in the kids of today?? Why are they throwing rock? Is it just that they are bored of the video games and the movies or is it more sadistic than that?
I guess only time will tell, but how many more are going to be hurt along the way???
