Today we went to Maxwells to pick up some things we left behind yesterday, and to watch a bit of the cricket…
Everything was going smoothly until the lunch break in the cricket, when Maxwell announced he was going to bake a cake.
Now my immediate thoughts were drugs, novelty cakes with bricks, poison, any excuse to play with knives, disposing of evidence, smuggling hacksaws into prisons, bombs and a bunch of other rather Maxwell like ideas…
However, I was wrong… he was actually planning to make a carrot cake. He said something about bribing people at work or similar…
At this point, the strangest thing happened. He did a google search (no surprises here) for a carrot cake recipie, and then proceded to follow the instructions pretty much to the letter.
Now I dont know about you, but I definatly consider instructions optional, and that applies to everything, or so I thought. And from what I understand most boys think instructions are about as useful as tonsils?
Today it became clear that this may not be the case. When I stopped to think about it, there are very few guys that I know that would scoff at using a recipie. But arn’t these just instructions in disguise?
Then it hit me, next time I need to leave instructions for someone, I will simply label them ‘recipie’ rather than instructions… that should improve the chances of someone using them!
