Today we decided on a whim to head to Slichester. The ruins of an old roman fortress.

Walking around the old walls, I had a sudden feeling that we are not tourists here. This is our lives.

When we first arrived in England there were lots of things I didn’t understand. I made the error of thinking some things were better back home.

5 years on, my error is blindingly obvious. Some things were better in NZ, but there’s plenty of things which are better here. When you first arrive, it’s impossible to see the things which are better at your destination. Good things take time.

Sure, a roman fortress on a cold winters day isn’t quite the same as a beach under a crystal blue sky, but it would be wrong to make the mistake of thinking one is better than another.

I love where we live.

I’m excited that we will have a family to raise here.

And then, on the way home, I had S1 laughing uncontrollably.

It’s been too long since I last did that.
